Shepherd's Hill

(RIDDLE THE SPHINX)
Through veils of dream, yearning and shadows
Lying on a hill of emerald grass and flowers
Hear the winds call, let the years fall
In the dusk your voice echoes.

Where the lusty breeze sang to our kisses
In the tangled leaves, honey molasses
In my dream I taste your embraces.

You smiled as you laced flowers into my hair
Drinking in the twilight, pillowed on grass cushions
Hear the winds call, let it enfold
In your arms we are warm and whole.

Where the lusty breeze sang to our kisses
In the tangled leaves, honey molasses
In the solace of dreams, your embraces.

Your heart was once red fruit warm and sweet
It filled me once every night to sleep
Did I forsake this, for city makeshift lights
That keep me awake.

I remember dusk hushed with embraces.
Shadows of the clouds paint your skin like canvas.
Hear the winds call, let the years fall
And enthrall you to my soul.

Where the lusty breeze sang to our kisses
In the tangled leaves, honey molasses
In my dream I still taste your embraces.

Into Forever

(RIDDLE THE SPHINX)
I feel you in the morning, and when I wake, you’re all the sun I need to warm me.
I walk outside and still I feel your heartbeat, warming me in the autumn breeze.
You are in the rain and air, we melt into forever.
In your arms you take me where I dream into forever.

Nothing now to shake me down
Nothing truly that can tear me from this forever I’m holding.
And all the fires of sunrise, all desires of tomorrow, coloring sunset to morning.
Let summer into dream come melt into forever.
Let me never leave from where I’m holding you.

I fly into your arms, and as the sunset falls, you’re more than shelter from the storm.
Night folds you in my arms. There’s nowhere sweeter than the air that mists the window.
Cherry blossoms fall like snow, I know that I’m still dreaming.
You are in the rain and air, my first taste of forever.

Nothing else can touch me here
Nothing truly that can hurt me in this world where I am holding you.
And all the fires of sunrise, all desires of tomorrow, coloring sunset to morning
To where my heart belongs, we melt into forever.
In your arms you take me where, I’m holding you.

Somewhere all the earth and air
Somewhere all the cloud and storm
Somewhere all my heart belongs
You are where, you are where

You are in the rain and air
You will always be my first and only true taste of forever.
And all the fires of sunrise, all desires of tomorrow, to your arms I surrender.
You are my breath and air, my first taste of forever.
In your arms you take me where I’m holding you forever.

Lullaby

(Riddle the Sphinx)
Lullaby
Night is burning
Human child
Hear us calling
Close your eyes
Take your broken yearning
Dreamer, rise
Rise from the fallen

Lullaby
Rest little one
Lullaby
Baby, don’t cry; it’ll be all right.

Now you lie
Yourself to sleeping
Lullaby,
Your soul we’re taking.
Cradled tight
Velvet starlight pouring
Lifted high
From the mortal morning.

Lullaby
Rest little one
Lullaby
Baby, don’t cry; it’ll be all right.

Rock-a-bye, dream away daylight, despair
Clothed in nocturnal bouquet-flavored air.
Wake if you dare ...

Lullaby
Rest little one
Lullaby
Baby, don’t cry; it’ll be all right.

Vagabond

(RIDDLE THE SPHINX)

Sandman

(RIDDLE THE SPHINX)
In my dream, you’re walking shrouded in a cloak of mist
The sun’s heat melts to dust and sand surrounding you.

And I knew, if I opened up your palms there’d be lines of roads you’ve walked, and paths we’ve almost crossed.

Wandering the voiceless sands
Cold winds ravage emptiness
Footsteps call a silent dance
Where dreams hold empty spaces.

Silent anguish in the scripted rough tips of your fingers
When nightwind pulled a hand from you.

And still you stumbled on, though you felt the cut of stones.

Holding out your hands, my fist would fit in and I’d open them for you to understand.

In my dream, in a whispered stream of waiting for a savior
I would kneel into the dust, anoint your feet in tears and prayer

You will lift me from the ground, whisper now at last you found through coldest winds and senseless storms, your dream, your soul, your haven.

Wandering through empty sands
Yearning for the silent dance
Of voiceless words that need no song
Where hushed embraces lead you home.

Footsteps fall in heartbeat trance
Silent, through the storm and sand
Silent, but I heard and ran to you, my Dream-Savior.

A Nickel a Drink

(RIDDLE THE SPHINX)
A nickel a drink for the water sir
A nickel a drink I’ll sell
A nickel a drink for the water, sir
I drew it from the well.

Now the old man plowed in his field one day
His furrows were long and straight.
As he turned at the far end row
I climbed the fence to wait.
And as the mule drew near to where I stood, I sang my song this way

A nickel a drink for the water sir, a nickel a drink I’ll sell
A nickel a drink for the water sir, I drew it from the well.
The sun is hot, your lips are parched, your tongue is dry as hell
A nickel a drink for the water sir, a nickel a drink I’ll sell.

Well the old man dipped in his pockets deep
His weathered hands dug ‘til they found
The nickel coin to buy his drink
The dipper filled, he drank it down.
Then he turned his mule to the field again, as I sang my song this way.

A nickel a drink for the water sir, a nickel a drink I’ll sell
A nickel a drink for the water sir, I drew it from the well.
The bucket’s full, the dipper’s clean, the water is fresh and cool.
A nickel a drink for the water sir, I drew it from the well…

Now the old man’s gone a long time ago, but I remember him.
When the sun is hot, and the fields are plowed, and the water comes from a well ….

A nickel a drink for the water sir, a nickel a drink I’ll sell
A nickel a drink for the water sir, I drew it from the well.
